Job Description

This position provides technical support to agency information technology functions including (but not limited to) the management of high level Active Directory tasks, authorizations and addressing via dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) and port security, server management through PowerShell scripting, the monitoring of automated alerts, the creation and ongoing maintenance of Microsoft Windows images and drivers, the creation and maintenance of application packages for all computing devices, and the creation/maintenance/revision of technical documentation encompassing all work efforts and actions taken.  The position requires the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, the ability to problem solve, and a motivation toward continuous improvement and professional development.  Work is in this position is often performed with little supervision which requires the candidate to be accountable for the management of the workload as well as possessing the characteristics of self-initiative and excellent judgment. The candidate must possess an exemplary level of organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure that error rates are rare or non-existent.

Examples of Work

  • Creating and maintaining Active Directory user account templates and groups.
  • Responsible for day-to-day Active Directory duties including the configuration and maintenance of a complex Active Directory Environment.
  • Creating, consolidating, and troubleshooting group policies (GPOs) in Active Directory, domain controller (DC) replication monitoring, and any other Active Directory maintenance tasks as needed.
  • Manages user and computer accounts and user group membership access on a daily basis.
  • Performs ongoing security reviews to ensure that access is only allowed to authorized personnel as required by agency directives and other applicable regulations.
  • Add and remove DHCP reservations.
  • Checking port security on Cisco switches.
  • Create PowerShell scripts to manage Active Directory accounts and to create reports to manage computer groups.
  • Continuously monitor servers and network alerts.
  • Continuously monitor print servers to ensure full functionality.
  • Configure networked production printers for deployment on an enterprise level.
  • Create, maintain, and deploy baseline images and driver packages for desktop and laptop computer in a high-volume enterprise environment.
  • Correctly and accurately update work orders to include specific details on identified problems and actions taken.
  • Correctly and accurately enter and maintain inventory control records, when applicable.
  • Provide technical review, feedback, and recommendations on existing (and future) implementations of operating systems and servers.
  • Provide technical review, feedback, and recommendations on current operational practices.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Required Candidate Skills, Knowledge, and Proficiencies:

  • Previous, verifiable experience in administering Microsoft Windows 7, Windows 10, Office 2016, and Office 365.
  • Previous, verifiable experience in creating and managing Organizational Units (OU) in the Active Directory Domain Structure in addition to creating and managing containers, group policies and securities.
  • Previous, verifiable experience creating, updating, and managing Windows operating system images (versions Windows 7 and Windows 10) and driver packages for Dell and Panasonic computer products.
  • Previous, verifiable experience in utilizing Microsoft deployment solutions (i.e. System Center Configuration Manger, Microsoft Deployment Toolkit, Microsoft Endpoint Manager, etc.).

 

Preferred Technical Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Requirements:

  • Previous, verifiable experience in troubleshooting and the assignment of addresses in Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP).
  • Previous, verifiable experience utilizing Cisco switch interfaces for managing port security.
  • Previous, verifiable experience assigning and deploying Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) to production printers.
  • Previous, verifiable experience utilizing the operational features of Windows Server 2012-2019.

Open Requirements/Supplemental Information

Previous Experience Required:

  • Associates degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or System Administration or two years of equivalent job experience in these technical areas.
  • Two (2) years of previous job experience managing, troubleshooting, and deploying Microsoft Windows operating systems (versions 7 and 10).
  • Certifications in CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network +, Microsoft Certified System Administrator (MCSA) or equivalent.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be available to work during limited emergency declarations as prescribed by the City of Jacksonville Civil Service and Personnel Rules and Regulations Rules.
  • Must be available to respond to telephone calls, meetings, and unexpected situations outside of normal work hours until situations are resolved.
  • Must be able to write technical documents to record actions taken for project planning, installations, modifications, upgrades, and problem resolutions.
  • Must be able to conduct research and effectively collaborate with outside entities and agencies regarding current best practices in computer hardware and peripherals maintenance.
  • Physical demands include sitting/standing for extended periods of time, bending, and occasionally lifting objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Must maintain existing knowledge and skills through continuing education.
  • Must have a personal standard of high attention to detail in all work tasks.
  • Must work well as part of a team and/or as an individual depending on the task at hand.
  • Must be flexible with changing, and often unexpected, work demands to meet the operational needs of the agency.
