Under general direction, acts as a minor officer of the court with the general duty and responsibility of ensuring courtroom security, safety, and proper decorum and obtaining and providing information required by judges, works under the direction of a certified officer who acts as Chief Bailiff for the judge presiding.
Directs defendants and witnesses to the stand; handles exhibits; checks courtroom security and safety and makes out daily work reports; provides arrest history information to judges monitors courtroom noise level and enforces compliance with court rules; removes violators and/or unruly or hostile defendants; ensures that witnesses, jurors, and litigants are dressed properly; fingerprints defendants; escorts prisoners,shackles and unshackles prisoners; relays unusual circumstances or information to supervisors for evaluation and action.
Applicants must be able to read, write, and speak English and must be in reasonably good health and physical condition as defined by the following:
HEARING: Must be able to hear and interpret normal speaking voices.
VISION: Must be able to see at a level that would ensure the reading and comprehension of normal office paperwork.
PHYSICAL ABILITY: Must be able to work standing for periods that range from two (2) to four (4) hours at a time; ability to shackle and unshackle hand and leg irons. Applicant must be able to
speak loudly, clearly and distinctly to call witnesses, call courts to order, etc
HOURS OF WORK
Applicant must be able to work all hours, day and night, whether court is in session for a short duration (Example: 4 hours) or extended duration (Example: 6 hours).
