Job Description

This position will manage the training program for Civilian employees in the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.  The role of this position is to develop a training program focusing on the training needs for civilian employees, including a focus on Leadership Development for both supervisors and managers.  This employee is responsible for scheduling training events and coordinating with outside vendors to offer courses both in person and online.  On occasion, the incumbent will provide instruction and teach certain programs.  The main function is not to be the trainer, but to develop a curriculum and look for ways to keep civilians involved in similar trainings as their sworn and corrections counterparts. 

Examples of Work

  • Responsible for designing and implementing a Civilian training program for Supervisors and managers.  
  • Completes needs assessment and develops a strategic plan each year to promote new agency goals.
  • Identify and assess training needs to include research, design, develop, coordinate, and implement specialized and customized training programs, workshops, and seminars.
  • Prepare, review, and update lesson plans and course curriculum for specific mandatory training required for all members when appropriate.  The courses and lessons will need to meet the various agency accreditation standards.
  •  Keeps training records, classes, attendance, etc. for civilian employees via PowerDMS
  • Schedules facilities, rooms, and various locations for in-person training.
  • Travels to work sites and promotes training, including interviewing prospective students and staff and recommending participation in applicable training programs
  • Maintains statistics and prepares reports on training programs and uses data to identify and implement process improvements

Open Requirements/Supplemental Information

Six years of work experience in education, human resources, employee development, or comparable.  Must have two years of professional experience in teaching or designing education programs.  A bachelor’s degree in Education, Business or a related field may substitute for four years of experience.
