Job Description

Are you a strong communicator who loves storytelling and making a difference? Do you thrive in fast-paced environments and care about keeping people informed? The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is looking for a Media Relations Specialist / Civilian Public Information Officer to help us share important updates, tell our agency’s story, and connect with the nearly one million people we serve.

Examples of Work

 

  • Vet and respond to all inquiries from the community and media outlets via email, phone, text, and/or social media
  • Serve as a liaison between the Sheriff and command staff and the community
  • Monitor and manage crime tips, feedback, compliments, and complaints
  • Ensure compliance with Florida State Statute 119 regarding the release of information, including public records, social media postings, critical incident briefings, response to resistance boards, and incident releases
  • Collaborate with the Strategic Communications executive, manager, and multimedia team to effectively communicate with the community
  • Provide timely and accurate public safety information, including incidents after hours
  • Assist in gathering and creating digital content for JSO’s social media platforms, website, and other communication channels
  • Contribute to the development of social media and marketing strategies to expand outreach and promote the agency’s mission
  • Coordinate with partner agencies as needed for information sharing and collaborative efforts

Open Requirements/Supplemental Information

  • Excellent writing skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both AP Style and a conversational tone
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • A solid background in social media
  • Proficiency in graphic design using Canva
  • Willingness to work after hours during special events or critical events, to include being on-call
  • Ability to collaborate with a team of Media Relations Specialists and Multimedia Specialists
  • Capable of working in fast-paced, evolving situations to share information quickly and accurately with the public
  • Familiarity with law enforcement policies and procedures as well as media relations and public relations
