This is service, maintenance, and repair work at intermediate worker level coordinating services provided by Jacksonville Sheriff's Office inmates. Requirements include making repairs for existing plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and mechanical systems. Work requires knowledge of the techniques, methods, work routines, and procedures used in custodial work and minor facility repair work. This is accomplished using specialized skills which are acquired through training and job experience. Schedules, distributes, oversees, and guides the work of others. Contacts with others require skills in understanding and/or influencing people and are important in providing services, including skills of persuasiveness, assertiveness, and sensitivity to others point of view that are required to influence behavior, change an opinion, or turn a situation around. The work is fairly routine, following routines, standing instructions, and established procedures, but some variation in the sequence of procedures used is permitted based on situations encountered in the workplace. The work is performed in a somewhat uncontrolled environment where there are some risks and hazards, but they are generally known, predictable, and mostly controllable. Operates hand tools, power tools, machines and equipment, personal computer, and motor vehicles. The physical demand consists of walking, standing, sitting, and bending, and includes exposure to dust, dirt, and other unpleasant conditions, and moving or lifting equipment and tools weighing 50 pounds or more. The work is performed under general supervision where the work assignments are varied and, although subject to standard practices and procedures, the worker is permitted some latitude to set own priorities subject to supervisor’s approval.
OPEN REQUIREMENTS: Three years of education and/or experience in the general cleaning and maintenance of buildings, facilities, grounds and supply maintenance. This experience could include repair work in a plumbing, electrical or air conditioning and heating field. One year’s experience in the capacity of an intermediate worker preferred.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Probationary period for this class is six (6) months. This classification performs safety-sensitive functions and is subject to pre-employment, random and other drug/alcohol testing programs as set forth in the City of Jacksonville’s Drug Free Workplace Policy (0401).
LICENSING/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: Must possess and maintain a valid class A commercial driver's license (CDL) during employment in this class. Registration with the Florida Motor Carrier Safety Administration is required prior to appointment. Must qualify for, obtain, and maintain a City of Jacksonville public driver certification for employment in this class. Must obtain Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) certification within 90 days of appointment to this classification.
